SUGGESTED packing list.

A suggested checklist to help you and your son come prepared for a comfortable weekend in the Tennessee outdoors. Pack in layers and plan for cold nights.

Sleeping

  • Sleeping bag (0–20° rating recommended) — bring extra sheets/blankets to insert and stay warm
  • Sleeping pad or cot
  • Small pillow

Tent

  • Tent
  • Tent poles
  • Tent stakes
  • Tarp to place under the tent to keep the floor dry
  • Rubber mallet
  • Extra rain tarp

Clothing & Footwear

  • Think in layers — you can always add warmth or pull off if too hot
  • Pants, T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts (shorts not recommended)
  • Wool socks recommended if it gets cold
  • Thermal undergarments in case it gets cold
  • Bedtime clothing
  • Closed-toe shoes — bring extra pairs just in case
  • Water shoes recommended if you swim or do cold plunges
  • Rain jacket (also helps keep you warm)
  • Jacket / coat
  • Sock cap and gloves
  • Swimming shorts
  • Towels
  • Bag for dirty clothes

Eating & Drinking

  • Insulated stainless steel water bottle with cap (refill stations available)
  • Insulated mug or tumbler with lid

Weather Protection

  • Rain jacket

  • Headlamp for each person

  • Gun range eye & ear protection (optional — basic protection provided)
  • Notebook and something to write with

Useful Items

  • Camp chairs / lawn chairs
  • Small dustpan and brush to clean dirt from tent
  • A couple of small trash bags for your tent site
  • Phone charger
  • Solar-charged battery pack / power banks / solar chargers
  • Paracord rope for small needs
  • Duct tape for small repairs (tent, sleeping gear, footwear)
  • Repair kits for tent, sleeping pad and sleeping bag (small and simple to bring)
